Myanmar Earthquake Response

A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake has devastated communities in central Myanmar. Even before this disaster, nearly half the country lived in poverty, with children especially vulnerable. Now, thousands are without food, clean water, or safe shelter.
“Children and their families who have survived this disaster are going to need emergency aid to get them through the days and months ahead. Many will likely be living out in the open following damage to their homes. Children will be especially vulnerable and very frightened. Please pray for those who survived and our staff as we respond," said Dr. Kyi Minn, World Vision Myanmar National Director.
For more than 30 years, World Vision has been serving in Myanmar. Our local teams are already on the ground, assessing the damage and delivering urgent aid. We target to reach 500,000 people including over 170,000 children with life-saving essentials and long-term recovery support. One month on from the earthquake, we have reached over 162,000 people including more than 50,000 children with immediate relief items, including ready-meal kits, clean water, hygiene kits, shelter, non-food items, multipurpose cash assistance and psychosocial support.
- $80 can provide food for a family for a month
- $180 can provide shelter kits for five families whose homes have been damaged
- $250 can provide 10 families with access to clean water
- $350 can provide a family with emergency cash voucher to meet their basic needs for a month
- $500 can provide 20 families with hygiene kits (including soap, towels, water purification tablets, washbasins) to meet their hygiene needs
