Learn about the stories of families in Sudan impacted by conflict
- Adoum
- Saba
- Abu Ramad Women's Centre
In their terrifying escape from the war, Adoum and his family had to abandon their home. Adoum’s mother now has food for only 4 more days.
Adoum used to fly kites with other boys in the camp. “He [used to be] fat and normal,” says Adoum’s Mother, while he now lays in her lap, too hungry to move.
When Saba and her family finally crossed the border, the silence was a relief. Saba's mother says, “When we crossed, there were no more shooting. We said ‘praises.’” Memories of gunfire, loss, and fear still linger, but they are determined to forge a future built on peace and an education for children.
“We suffered a lot in our war, and we don’t want others to suffer. We are going to help those who come behind us.”
Nestled in the heart of Blue Nile State, the Abu Ramad Women’s Centre, stands as a beacon of hope and resilience for Sudanese women. The women here are not merely surviving; they are gaining independence, against all odds.
Gathering to learn and create, they are acquiring valuable new skills that sustain their families and provide a sense of purpose and pride.
