East Afghanistan Earthquake Response

Two major earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 and 5.2 have struck eastern Afghanistan on 1 September. Over 1,400 deaths have been reported so far. Thousands are injured, as entire villages are destroyed in the Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Panjshir provinces. Rescue efforts are now underway to find those still trapped under the rubble of collapsed mud and timber homes. Access to healthcare and clean water is already limited before the earthquake. A disaster of this scale exacerbates existing vulnerabilities and deepens humanitarian need.

Your donation will help provide children and families with the following basic necessities needed to survive in the aftermath of the disaster:

  • Safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) to prevent disease outbreaks
  • Essential health and nutrition services for the injured and vulnerable
  • Immediate food and cash assistance for families who lost homes and livelihoods
  • Mental health and psychosocial support, particularly for women, children, and at-risk groups
