How does Child Sponsorship work?

Submitted by 000209669 on

Child Sponsorship works very simply! Your monthly recurring donation will provide your sponsored child, his/her family and community with basic needs, love and care through your sponsorship support. In turn, you will receive annual progress updates and can even correspond with your child.

A child’s life is transformed through your sponsorship!

How can I be sure my donations are really benefiting the community?

At World Vision, we consider every donation a sacred trust. Therefore, as part of our stewardship, we optimise the funds, resources and distribute them to where they are needed most in the communities we are helping. We carefully monitor and review our programmes and costs periodically, making sure the funds are achieving the highest possible impact in the lives of the children and families. For financial accountability, we are audited by external and independent auditors, KPMG Singapore for the Singapore office.

How much of the sponsorship amount actually goes to the child? How do you allocate the funds among the five key sectors?

Submitted by 000209669 on

A maximum 20% of the S$50 is allocated for communication, public education and administrative costs. The remainder of your contribution is then allocated according to the needs of the community where your sponsored child is from. Some of the aspects that determine the use of the sponsorship contribution are ready infrastructure, traditions and culture, natural resources, and a community’s development phase. Depending on the level of necessity and development chronology, funds will be channelled to develop each area at varying amounts and at different stages.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Submitted by 000209669 on

No, all donations to World Vision Singapore are non-tax-deductible. World Vision is registered as a foreign charity with the Commissioner of Charities. The policy set by the Singapore Government requires that only gifts or donations to local charities with IPC* status are entitled to tax-deductions. (*Institution of Public Character)

How can I apply for General Interbank Recurring Order (GIRO)?

Submitted by 000209669 on

Please note that bank fees and charges may be applicable and vary among banks.

As the banks usually take 4 to 6 weeks to process your GIRO application, you may want to send us a cheque of $50 payable to "World Vision International" for your first month's contribution if you wish to start the sponsorship right away.

How are the children being empowered through Chosen®?

Submitted by 000209669 on

One critical component of child empowerment is giving children space to develop their own opinions and act on their thoughts and preferences. Through Chosen®, children have the opportunity to select their own sponsor, instead of being informed of who has selected them.

This is only one of the many things that World Vision is doing to empower children as part of our child-focused, community-empowering approach.
