Muong Cha is a remote mountainous district in Dien Bien province of northwestern Vietnam. The district has a high poverty rate of 42.86%, living on less than USD$2.15 a day. Frequent disasters such as flash floods and landslides further disrupt their lives. Most families rely on small-scale farming for subsistence, with limited market access. Economic hardship and local customs increase school dropouts, especially among girls due to child marriage and the need to work. 24.9% of children under five are affected by stunting.

Through Child Sponsorship, you can support children in Muong Cha to stay in school, grow up healthy, and look ahead to a brighter future.

“From my visit to Muong Cha, I took home something precious, something we wouldn’t find back home in our daily grind. I hope the vulnerable families we visited in Muong Cha will not give up hope, even when everyone calls them poorest of the poor just like Xuan, a sponsored child I met during his trip who courageously defied all odds when doctors said she would never walk again after a burn accident, by taking one small step a time.”
