Son Tra is located in an urban area about 1 km away from Da Nang city centre. Almost 1 in 5 people were living on US$2 or less per day. The main source of livelihood is fishing. But due to the restriction in fishing areas, fishermen are unable to catch enough to feed their families and sustain a stable income. The district has the highest rate of stunting in the city with 18.5% of children under the age of five being affected.  As parents spend most of their time to make a living, children are at risks of domestic violence, accidents and drowning.

Together with Child Sponsors, we have helped families in Son Tra strengthen sustainable livelihoods—laying the foundation for children to grow up healthy, protected from harm, and ready for a brighter future.

“During the trip to Son Tra, I caught a glimpse of the harsh realities that our sponsored children and other locals face every day. No act of kindess, no matter how small is wasted. I think World Vision is doing a great job.”

“I used to spend all my time at home with a silent life as I did not go to school and had no friends. After joining World Vision’s programme, I had the chance to go out, learn new things, meet many people, and sing my favorite song in public. It helped me gain confidence and made me happy.”
