Let’s travel back in time to see what we achieved during the 2022 edition of the 30 Hour Famine!

Over 150 participants fasted for 30 hours and completed interactive experiential challenges that highlighted the plight of children living in a world of inequality.

More than 150 malnourished children were sponsored on World Vision’s Urban Nutrition Hub programme in Cebu, the Philippines!

Frequently Asked Questions

World Vision is a child-focused Christian humanitarian and development organisation dedicated to addressing the needs of the world’s most vulnerable children, regardless of their race, religion, gender, or nationality. Through a combination of emergency relief, community development, and advocacy programmes in about 100 countries around the world, World Vision works in partnership with communities in need to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice, thereby enabling them to reach their full potential. In addition, we work in partnership with the affiliated programmes and specialised agencies of the United Nations, including the World Food Programme, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and UNICEF. Most recently, our emergency response teams have been on the ground providing life-saving aid to children and families in crisis settings, including Afghanistan, Ukraine, and the areas affected by the Türkiye-Syria earthquake.

The 30 Hour Famine is a youth event that has been organised annually by World Vision in Singapore for more than 20 years. Various editions of this event are held across the world in countries where World Vision works every year, and collectively form an international movement for youth to take a stand together against hunger and poverty. In Singapore, the event places an emphasis on experiential learning through interactive and educational challenges, so that youth may become more informed and empathetic advocates for vulnerable children. Participants from secondary schools to tertiary institutions in Singapore come together to fast from food for 30 hours while completing a series of interactive educational challenges, so that they may cultivate a deeper appreciation of the struggles of vulnerable children and families who have to go without food for much longer periods.

Participants of this year’s 30 Hour Famine will be challenged to complete a series of team-based Amazing Race station activities simulating barriers to education in different parts of the world. As participants walk in the shoes of children who face immense obstacles to education – including economic instability, environmental disasters, health crises, conflict, and damaging cultural norms – they will endeavour to chart their way through these challenges back to a brighter future. By joining the 30 Hour Famine, participants will discover how children and youth from other countries and backgrounds share many aspirations in common with them here in Singapore: not only the desire for meaningful and dignified livelihoods, but also the ability to provide for the people whom they love.

Yes! It will be an in-person day camp.

No, it is a day camp. Participants will not sleep over at a campsite during the event.

Yes! Our signature 30-hour fast from solid food returned in 2022, and we hope that through the experience of fasting, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of the struggles that vulnerable children and families face when they go without food for much longer periods of time.

On Day 1, we will be chartering a ferry for participants to Lazarus Island. Details will be sent to participants before the event begins. On Day 2, participants will head to the gathering point in Sentosa on their own. The gathering point in Sentosa is easily accessible, and directions will be provided beforehand.

Yes! Lazarus Island is part of Singapore’s cluster of Southern Islands and is a popular weekend destination for both Singaporeans and tourists to enjoy a picnic, relax in nature, and participate in outdoor activities. In addition, every team will be accompanied by a facilitator, and staff members from the 30 Hour Famine organising team are trained in Standard First Aid, including CPR and AED.

30 Hour Famine: Uncharted will consist entirely of team challenges! You are highly encouraged to sign up in teams of up to 10 with your friends. For individuals, we will do our best to place you in a team comprising members of a similar age group as you.

Participants will have to complete the full 1.5-day programme, including the 30-hour food fast.

No, there will not be any online challenges this year.

We will be monitoring the COVID-19 situation to ensure a safe 30 Hour Famine experience for all participants! Do follow our Instagram account @worldvisionyouthsg and look out for any updates!

If you complete the 30 Hour Famine successfully, you will receive an e-certificate via e-mail after the event has ended!
