Farming work is tough work, said the city kid who has never met a farmer. Are you that city person who yearns to have a go at farming but not sure if you would be of much help? Passionate about climate change but not sure where to start? Wish to make a tangible difference but also gain some hands-on volunteering experience?
We're embarking on our second Trailblazer Trip!
This year, we’re heading to the Philippines – the 3rd most disaster prone country in the world.
Battered by 20 typhoons every year, life in the country has been about battling one typhoon to another. Loon, Bohol, is particularly vulnerable to earthquakes, landslides and flash floods. In this farming community, the poorest families are the hardest hit. Repeated exposure to disasters destroy everything they harvest and build, making it difficult for them to continue their livelihood or provide for the basic needs of their families. As the frequency of disasters increase and become more certain with climate change, unprepared farming communities face the risk of starvation and complete devastation.
Join us on this trip to volunteer with farming communities in Bohol, Philippines, and help strengthen families and children so that they may be better prepared to face, brace and protect themselves against future disasters.
Trip Cost: S$605/- (Flights excluded)
Day 1: Depart from Singapore to Bohol, Philippines
Day 2 - 5:
• Meet and walk in the shoes of farmers who bear the brunt of climate change in their daily lives
• Sow climate-resilient Cacao and Vitiver Grass seeds and introduce technology that will provide food in the face of disaster
• Plant mangroves to protect the coastlines
• Connect with children in the community and learn about child friendly disaster preparedness approaches
• Campaign for those who are voiceless, share their stories and raise much needed funds
Day 6: Flight back to Singapore
How it works:
Learn about the cause
We want you to know and believe in the cause you’re raising funds for. After you’ve registered, you will receive detailed information on the project and be equipped with the know-hows of disaster resilience and how it will improve the livelihoods of vulnerable families and children in the Philippines.
Share the cause with your friends and family and crowdfund for it
On top of paying for the trip cost, each participant will be required to raise at least $2,000 for the project.
