Same birthday but different lives

Channel U’s “Birthday Pals” explores what it is like for two individuals to be born on the same day but living in completely different worlds.

This 30-minute episode airing on Wednesday, August 20 at 9:30 pm contrasts two 17-year-old teenagers – Ly Long, a Cambodian boy, victim of family violence who scavenges for a daily living, and Jessica, a Singaporean Junior College student who has mostly led a sheltered life and faces daily stress in terms of school exams and activities.

Born on the same day, yet with such different outcomes. What are their aspirations? How do they see the world they live? What hopes do they have for their future? Watch and find out!

Ly Long’s story

We first featured Ly Long during our 30 HOUR FAMINE CAMP 2007 when we shared his life story and compared it with those of Singaporean teens. He was fifteen at the time and this was the video that was shown to our campers.
