The $50,000 question: What Will Joi Chua Do to Change the World?

What would you do if you have $50,000? Go for a worldwide tour? Change your wardrobe? Or like Joi Chua, recording artiste from Warner/ Play Music and World Vision Singapore’s 2006 Ambassador, sponsor poverty-stricken children supported by World Vision?

Joi’s wish was captured on Sunday Times, Sept 24 (Life, page 11) in the ‘Aspire’ series. This is a series of interviews, which profiles people who have the passion to fulfil their aspirations.

In the article, Joi shares passionately about her Cambodia trip with World Vision and her heartfelt afterthoughts on issues related to street children, HIV/AIDS, child trafficking and child sex tourism.

‘Through World Vision, I have seen how children need financial support. So I will use half the money to sponsor children in poor countries. The other half will be used to publicise the organisation’s activities to attract sponsors and people who want to help children.’ – Joi Chua

  • I would put aside $10,000 for savings. With the rest, I will join World Vision as a volunteer and help the disadvantaged in those impoverished countries. As I prefer hands-on than just writing out a cheque, I would be able to see first-hand what the people are going through and be able to empthasise with them.
  • The world to me should be very beautiful. There are many sad things happening around us and I am sad things are beyond my control as i do not have the money!! I pray that with a $50,000,i could sponsor a child through the World Vision, to provide yet another lesser child a chance to live his life more beautifully!
