DISASTER RESPONSE FUND |
|
|
 |
When a disaster strikes, World Vision staff can be on the scene within 72 hours, bringing urgently needed food and supplies to people faced with a crisis. World Vision responds to emergency disaster situations like:
- Rapid and slow onset natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis and droughts;
- Man-made disasters such as conflicts and war;
- Complex humanitarian emergencies caused by a number of factors such as political, social and economic, that can be across a single country or a group of countries; and
- Chronic ongoing emergencies where a country experiences deterioration of quality of life over an extended period of time.

World Vision is committed to responding swiftly and effectively to reduce the impact of humanitarian emergencies. We also work with communities to rebuild livelihoods in the short- and long-term, and to increase their ability to cope with future disasters. The Disaster Response Fund is designed to support this crucial work. Click here to help.
Through your support, the Disaster Response Fund enables World Vision to prepare and respond to humanitarian needs in emergencies through disaster management. This includes;
- Preparedness: World Vision anticipates emergency needs and prepares to meet them before disaster strikes. This is done through community engagement, training, and pre-positioning 'ready-to-go' emergency supplies in warehouses strategically located around the world.
- Response: Our Global Rapid Response Team can respond within 72 hours to disasters anywhere in the world, bringing expertise in crisis management and emergency logistics. Our ongoing work in nearly 100 countries gives us contacts in local areas and enables us to get relief programmes up and running swiftly and effectively.
- Long-Term Rehabilitation: After a crisis, short- and long-term needs persist. World Vision often remains in each location with a continuing commitment to relief and rehabilitation, enabling communities to rebuild and move forward. This commitment distinguishes World Vision's relief efforts throughout the world.
By supporting our Disaster Response Fund, you will help fund emergency work where it is most urgently needed, including:
- The distribution of relief aid like food, water, blankets and temporary shelter during a natural or man-made disaster;
- Long-term projects to reduce human suffering, protect livelihoods and rebuild communities after a disaster;
- Disaster mitigation and preparedness programmes that help equip communities with strategies to reduce the impact of a future crisis; and
- The pre-stocking of warehouses that are strategically located globally with items such as water purification tablets, shelter materials, cooking utensils and blankets.
