WHAT IS THE ONE CHILD CAMPAIGN?

ONE Child Campaign is a Singapore-based child sponsorship drive to find 1,000 child sponsors for 1,000 needy children living in Asia and Africa.

Imagine having to choose between drinking disease-ridden water or not drinking it, and risking death from dehydration. It doesn’t bear thinking about. Yet children in the poorest regions of the world face this kind of appalling dilemma every day; it’s a desperate state of affairs, but it could be so different.

The problems children face in the developing world differ, but the cause is always the same - poverty. It's easy to feel hopeless, but through child sponsorship with World Vision, you can truly do something about it, something extraordinary. You can personally reach out and connect with a child and their community and help them overcome incredible hardships and build for the future…

We’re one of the world’s leading relief agency fighting poverty in the poorest areas of the world. We help local communities build for the future by helping them gain the food, clean water, education, and healthcare they desperately need. Working together, we build the skills and know-how they need to stand on their own two feet.

FIND 1000 NEW SPONSORS IN 100 DAYS

If we can find 1,000 new sponsors in 100 days, we can transform the lives of many children and their communities from one of despair to one of hope.  It’s a challenge, but with your help, it is one we can meet.

As a child sponsor, you are connected with one special child who will know your name, write to you and feel your tender love and care. Your child sponsorship monthly pledge of $45 will provide a child with things such as: Clean Water, Nutritious Food, Healthcare and Access to Education. Your support will also fund development work in Baterdene's community, such as digging wells, improving sanitation and building health clinics.  This work ensures that the community will be able to provide children with the basics they need to help them grow up in a healthy environment and have a chance for a better, sustainable future.

Our child sponsorship scheme is unique. We are a development agency that manages every penny of its donations, so you can be sure your money reaches those who need it most.

You get to see and feel the difference your support makes directly, through the eyes of your sponsored child and their regular letters and photographs. What could be more rewarding? And because we’re committed to working in an area until it becomes self-sufficient, you can be sure your money is a hand-up not a hand out.

‘Through World Vision, I have seen how children need financial support. So I will use half the money to sponsor children in poor countries. The other half will be used to publicise the organisation’s activities to attract sponsors and people who want to help children.’
-- Joi Chua, World Vision Singapore Goodwill Ambassador, on a media visit with her pair of sponsored twins from Cambodia (Bati ADP), May 2006

I believe that giving is better than receiving, and if a small financial help can go a long way to help a child, why not? It always feels good to be able to bring hope and happiness to the unfortunate and the needy. Best of all, it’s the sense of fulfillment when you see your sponsored child grow and progress well in life every year. You simply feel happy for him and his family.

It was the best experience when I was able to hug him (Baterdene) in person two years ago at his house! That moment spurred a lot of warm and touching feelings and it’s beyond what words can describe. His family and a few of the volunteers were moved to tears. This memory will stay with me forever.
-- Nicholas Khoo on a supporters’ trip to Uvurkhangai Area Development Programme, Mongolia in September 2004 where he met Baterdene and family

“I never thought that I would see Bizu in person, because Ethiopia is so far away. I was overwhelmed with joy when I finally met her – to see her healthy and able to go to school. My monthly gift of $45 may be a small sum but it is able to provide a poor child and her entire community!”
-- Li Hua on her visit to Seden Muchuchata Area Development Programme, Ethiopia in September 2005 where she met her 9-year old sponsored child, Bizu.

“This trip had given me lots of vivid memories with colours, sounds and emotions. Looking at the photos, I recall the innocent smiles, laughter and tears of the parents and children told me in the best possible way, that my small contribution as a Child Sponsor has helped fellow earthlings in their life, and how proud I am of it.”
-- Ms Fern Long participated in the World Vision Child Sponsors’ trip to Tiandong ADP, China in April 2005.
