Thank you ‘uncles’ and ‘aunties’ from Singapore!

How Child Sponsorship has transformed a child’s life

Dang Thuanh Luan is ten years old and has participated in World Vision’s Child Sponsorship Programme since Primary Grade One. He helps his family care for their animals in the farm and his favourite subject is Mathematics. He is one of the top Math students in his school.

During a recent visit to Luan’s family by a World Vision staff, Luan and his mother, Mdm Hien shared about how their lives have changed since Luan became a sponsored child. Mdm Hien said, “Luan has participated in the sponsorship programme for nearly three years now. We used to be very poor. My husband and I had to leave the family and migrate to the south to earn money. Luan had to live with his grandparents while we were away for months on end. Our family’s income is not good so we can only afford to call home and
speak to Luan once every few months.”

But as she continued sharing, Mdm Hien’s face lit up, “We were very happy to learn that someone from Singapore – “uncles” and “aunties” from CapitaLand Hope Foundation – has decided to sponsor Luan. The staff of World Vision checked on his well-being often. He also received clothes, a school bag, books and even a bicycle! He has changed very much since becoming a sponsored child, both in his studies and his confidence in life. He is a good boy and will always offer his share of food to me to show his love and respect. He knows that mothers should eat nutritious food to take care of the family well. Luan also says that he wants to repay his parents’ love for him when he grows up by studying hard and becoming a good person.” Luan’s mother related with tears of joy and pride in her eyes.

This proud mother also added, “In the afternoon after school, Luan immediately does his homework and in the evening after having dinner at 7pm, he will revise his school work without being asked to. My husband and I cannot help him with that as we did not get the opportunity to go to school when we were young.”

For Luan, the most meaningful thing he has received as a sponsored child is the loving care from World Vision staff, teachers and his sponsor, especially when his parents were working in the south. Luan has enjoyed having birthday parties with his friends at school. He feels happy and is encouraged to learn more and work harder. Luan’s grades have steadily improved from year to year and he is an excellent student. His results stand at an outstanding 9.75/10. Luan and his parents feel very happy.

Luan wants to thank his sponsor, CapitaLand Hope Foundation, for sending him gifts and support to build a beautiful and spacious school. He hopes to meet them one day to show his gratitude.

Thank you, Singapore!

Your support has given your sponsored child access to education, healthcare, food security, and provided the child’s parents with more skills and confidence to provide a better future for their children and family.

The children and families of Phu Cu ADP and World Vision would like to say a big “THANK YOU” to you for helping to transform their lives.

We hope you will continue to journey with us as a World Vision Child Sponsor, and see more lives changed for the better!
