World Vision launches Global Child Health Campaign

World Vision will launch its first global campaign called “Child Health Now” in New York, Nairobi and Geneva on November 16, 2009.

The five-year campaign will press governments to deliver on their commitment to help achieve the United Nation’s health-related Millennium Development Goal (MDG) MDG 4 – reduce child mortality . It will also press governments to achieve MDG 5 – improve maternal health and MDG 6 – combat HIV and AIDS as a means of achieving MDG 4.

The Child Health Now campaign is the first of its kind for World Vision. It aims to improve the health of mothers and children by:

• Reducing child mortality by two-thirds by 2015, particularly in the poorest and most marginal regions of the world;

• Raising awareness of, and provoking greater public discourse about, child mortality; and

• Informing and persuading decision-makers and governments to do all they can to keep children healthy.
