Longkang fishing fun with Credit Suisse

13 children beneficiaries, two siblings, and 11 accompanying parents had a day of fun and laughter at the One Life Fund outing at Qian Hu Fish Farm held Saturday, 17 April 2010. We were also delighted to have 15 Credit Suisse employee-volunteers join us for the meaningful excursion, where each befriended a child as a big brother/ sister for the day. 11 World Vision Youth Ambassadors also joined in as helpers to organise the day-out.

Besides learning more about different varieties of fish and their living environments, the children also enjoyed gazing at beautiful and unusual marine species, playing with baby terrapins, and even saying hi to Jackie Chan’s pet fish!

The highlight of the day, however, was definitely the longkang fishing activity. Eager little hands started grabbing nets and pails from the guide even before he was done with the safety briefing, and once he declared “Go!”, all of them rushed to the water’s edge to begin fishing.

It seemed rather impossible to catch the fast-moving fish at first, but the children soon got a hang of the technique, and many of them succeeded in collecting more than 30 fish in their little pails! Although they had to put all the fish back into the water at the end of the activity, each child was given a packet of fish and a fish tank to bring home and start their own mini-aquariums.

As a special touch, each Credit Suisse volunteer presented their befriended child with a file and stationery gift set at lunch, bringing this special day to a wonderful close.
