Singapore rallies for Haiti through music and giving


Thank you Singapore for your amazing outpouring of love and compassion towards the victims of the devastating 12 January earthquake in Haiti!

World Vision Singapore is deeply grateful for the strong support from you, our caring donors, who have raised more than $260,000 (as of 8 March 2010) for World Vision’s Haiti Earthquake Relief efforts.

Some notable highlights:

Haiti Haiti Charity Concerts

Organised by Café Diplo and kindly supported by City Developments Limited

Local artistes rallied behind Café Diplo, a local peacebuilding social enterprise, to lend their voices in support of Haiti Earthquake Relief. Two successful concerts were held – the first in City Square Mall on 30 January and the second on 20 February at Chinatown Point (amidst the Lunar New Year festivities).

With hearts of gratitude, the total donations received from the Haiti Haiti campaign surpassed the initial fundraising target of $50,000! Approximately $10,000 cash donations were received from the general public through the two concerts. In addition to sponsoring the concert venues, City Developments Limited also raised more than $37,000 through the following initiatives:

1. Passing the hat around to collect donations from staff, with a matching donation from the management;


2. Canvassing for donations from the tenants;

Appointing World Vision’s Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund as one of the two beneficiaries of a separate Chinatown Point event.

Special thanks also goes out to Mad Design Pte Ltd for sponsoring 100 specially-designed Relieve-Recover-Rebuild Haiti T-shirts, which were given out to people who donated $50 and above towards the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. We would also like to thank the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Baey Yam Keng, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, for gracing the event on 20 February at Chinatown Point.
