World Vision Singapore offers aid for snowstorm disaster in Mongolia

Earlier this year in Mongolia, an extremely cold winter, fraught with severe snow storms, threatened the livelihoods of many families across some 13 soums (provinces).

As most Mongolians are nomadic, such harsh climates threaten their livelihoods, and interventions had to be made quickly to replenish food and access to livestock feed to those who are affected by the disaster.

World Vision Singapore responded by contributing US$10,000 to Mongolia to assist those who were severely affected by providing emergency food, clothing, heating, as well fodder for animals.

The emergency response was carried out in April 2009 and provisions were made to the most vulnerable victims. They included:

  1. 204.7 tonnes of wheat flour for 4,590 disaster affected families, benefiting a total of 22,950 people; and
  2. 87 tonnes of fodder to feed livestock for 2,765 households, benefiting a total of 12,400.

Priority was given to large households and families with elderly, disabled, or pregnant persons.

World Vision Singapore-supported Uvurkhangai Area Development Programme was not affected by this disaster.
