In January 2010, 15 World Vision child sponsors braved the winter chills of Northern Thailand to visit their sponsored children in Bo Kleau Area Development Programme (ADP). World Vision child sponsor, Ng Lay Peng shares her heartfelt experience with us.
It was my first time participating in a child sponsors trip and I was very excited to meet my sponsored child. For the journey to Bo Kleau, I mentally prepared myself and knew that it would be worth whatever discomfort faced. It would also be a wonderful eye-opener for me to finally be in an ADP that I read so much about in the World Vision newsletters and brochures.
I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with the children when we visited a local World Vision-assisted school. I have read stories about poverty but personally being there to witness it with my own eyes was so different. Perhaps I am too much a creature of modern-day comfort. I cannot imagine myself living in the harsh conditions that the children endure in the ADP.
World Vision has and is still making a big difference in people’s lives. I’m glad that I was able to see and feel the impact of their work in person.
